Making up is an essential part of Rotary life. All members of a Rotary club are expected to meet once a week — unless otherwise exempted — for fellowship, learning and committee work. It's like attending classes for undergraduate students. There's much to be benefitted from the weekly meetings. There's always the talks given by speakers invited by the Programme chairman; dissemination of Rotary, District and club information; fellowship with visiting Rotarians and guests; to name but a few.
If for any reason, Rotarians cannot attend their own club meetings, they are expected to make-up. And recently, the rules have been loosened, such that a Rotarian could achieve 100% attendance quite easily now. Consider the following:
- You can now make-up anytime, during the 2 weeks before or two weeks after your scheduled club meeting
- Attendance at District Conferences and Assemblies, is considered as 2 make-ups
- Attendance at own club's committee meeting is considered a make up.
- Make-ups can be done at any Rotary club in the world.
- You can even make-up online, from the comfort of your home.
If a club, is showing attendance below 60%, that is considered poor. Most probably, the President is ignorant of the make-up rules, or not monitoring his club's performance; and have never heard of eClubs where you can make-up online.
